The Conquest of India? circa 1760 - Lot 69
The Conquest of India? circa 1760 Folded fan, the wallpaper leaf of a seaside citadel. Ships have docked, while troops face each other. Some of them wearing blue-and-yellow or blue-and-red uniforms, while others are wearing white turbans. Perhaps this is an evocation of the war between Indian soldiers leading to the colonization of India (1757). Dull reverse. Mounted in ivory, the waving profile strands cut and painted with flowers. The plumes are carved with flowers. H.t. 26 cm-H.f. 11.3 cm (restorations, canvas reverse lining) FR2309200893-K
