MANUSCRIT Elévation durant la Très-Sainte Messe Cambrai, 1738. In-8, full calf, double set of triple fillet on the plates otherwise decorated with fleurons in the corners of the internal triple fillet, ornamented endpapers, inner plates in red morocco richly decorated with increasingly large rolls, fleurons in the corners, spine decorated with boxes having received in their center fleur de lys surmounted by a crown. Silk endpapers. [3] ff, title, 64 pp, [3] pp. having only received the ornamental frame, [5] pp. blank. Manuscript of the Mass, written in large type and decorated on all pages with colored and sometimes gilded initials, fleurons, and culs-de-lampe, as can be seen from the title page which features a representation of the Holy Spirit. At the time, the bishop of Cambrai was Charles de Saint-Albin, "a very well-made bastard", according to Saint-Simon, of the future Regent of France and of an opera dancer, Florence Perrin, herself the daughter of a cabaret owner. A similar copy of this Cambrian production is preserved in the Morgan Library.
