THE HURDY-GURDY PLAYER, CIRCA 1780. - Lot 48
THE HURDY-GURDY PLAYER, CIRCA 1780. Folded fan, double sheet of cream silk painted with a central cartel, underlined with silver sequins, with a couple listening to the music of a hurdy-gurdy player in a country setting. On the sides, doves on a cloud and two flaming hearts, symbols of love. Reverse side, roses painted in cartels. The frame is made of brown tortoiseshell**, carved and silvered, decorated with an altar of love with doves and flaming hearts framing a merchant selling his products to a couple. H.t. 28,2 cm / H.f. 13,5 cm (good condition, some folds reinforced at the back) NB: note the very close composition of the central cartels of the throat and the leaf, which indicates a fan order.
