TATIANA NICOLAYEVNA, Grand Duchess of Russia (1897-1918). - Lot 39
TATIANA NICOLAYEVNA, Grand Duchess of Russia (1897-1918). Autograph letter signed "Tatiana", addressed to Countess Zénaïde Sergueïèvna Tolstoï, née Bekhteeff (1880-1961), dated November 29, 1917, sent from Tobolsk, 2 pages, folio, text in Russian, folds, tears, but overall good condition. Translation: "My dear Zenaïde Serguïévna, thank you very much for your kind letter of 8/XI. It took 20 days to reach us. Quite a long time. I wrote you on the 6th and then on the 19th (November). Did you receive these letters? We receive your letters. They have all arrived. Tell R. that Olga has written twice, both times to Moscow at the address she gave us. I'm glad she's still with you. I thank Dalechka for her letter. I'll write to her separately. Did you forward my letter to Moussia? Did she receive it? I also recently injected Olga with arsenic. I remembered how R. (Rita: Margarita Khitrovo, court maid of honor, Tatiana's friend) had done. In the evenings we all sit together. Some play bridge, while others work. Dad reads aloud. Sometimes he plays and someone else reads for him. The other day we finished reading Tourguenieff's Memoirs of a Hunter. So well written and fascinating. Sometimes I play the piano, but not much, as you can hear it everywhere in the house. It's been quite cold these last few days, but with beautiful sunshine and incredible light on the mountains. Don't forget that you promised to send me a photograph of all of you. Maybe you will? What do you think? I'm glad you got to know N. D. He's very nice and very funny. Have you ever seen N. V. ? Say hello for me if you write to him. If you write again, please address my letters directly. They'll be read anyway. It's better this way. I send my love to UA. (Yalia Alexandrovna (Lili) von Dehn (1888-1963), one of the Czarina's two best friends) Well, goodbye, my dear Zinotchka. I'm happy to call you that. Warm greetings to your husband and Seriocha. We give you a big hug. We speak of you very often."
