Plate with gauderons_x001f_ in Sèvres porcelain from the - Lot 261
Plate with gauderons_x001f_ in Sèvres porcelain from the
18th century
Blue mark with two interlaced Ls, date letter I for 1762, decorator's mark for Noël
With polychrome and gold decoration in the center of a bouquet of flowers, the wing of bouquets of flowers in three gold rocaille reserves with flowers and friezes of sequins standing out on a celestial blue background, restoration to the rim, minor wear.
D._x001e_: 26 cm.
Provenance_x001e_: perhaps from a supplement to the "_x001e_bleu céleste_x001e_" service of King Louis XV between 1762-65.
Notes_x001e_:
Six other plates bearing the same date letter as "_x001e_notre_x001e_" model, are preserved in the collections of the Duke of Buccleuch in Boughton.
It is very possible that some of them come from the delivery made in 1762, as mentioned by David Peters in his publication Sèvres plates and services of the 18th century, Little Berkhamsted, 2015, 62-3, although this cannot be confirmed. Note also that the purchase of these plates may not have been recorded, or at least not in 1762, and may have been made later_x001e_: in December 1764 or December 1765 there are mentions of cash sales at Versailles of plates that could correspond.
For further details of the third delivery of Louis XV's "_x001e_bleu céleste_x001e_" service, and possible supplements to this service, see by David Peters, Op. cit, Little Berkhamsted, 2015, 55-1 and 62-3.
Another plate of this model, with the letter date A, was sold by Christie's, New York, April 5, 2022, lot 17.
