Pair of porcelain busts He in Nymphenburg porcelain, circa 1770_x001e_; she probably later by Samson Modeled by Franz Anton Bustelli, after models by J.-J. Kändler, he representing Prince Louis Charles de Bourbon, she Princesse Marie-Zépherine de Bourbon, on a rocaille base in relief, with polychrome and gold décor au naturel, minor restoration to one base_x001e_; small chips, small missing parts. H._x001e_: 25.5 cm. (him) and 25 cm. (her) Notes_x001e_: These subjects were modeled by Franz Anton Bustelli around 1765, after a model by J.-J. Kändler created around 1753. The preparatory pen-and-ink drawing with red chalk highlights, taken from a model book dating from around 1775, is preserved in the archives of the Meissen manufactory. A pair in Nymphenburg porcelain is in the collections of the British Museum in London (Inv. 1948,1203.70).
