Needlepoint lace border, Reticella and Punto in Aria, Italy, early 17th century. Needlepoint lace on bobbin trimmings, with two alternating motifs of stylized flowers well representative of the ornamental register of this period, the lower lacework adorned with carnations and bulbous flowers. Cream-colored linen. Dim. 58 x 12 cm (restorations) We enclose a linen square hemmed with Punto in Aria needle lace from the same period, lace width: 2.5 cm (good condition, small tear at one corner). Cf.
