Osamu TEZUKA (1928-1989) Astroboy, original illustration for a Sugoroku. India ink and gouache on paper. With certificate of authenticity and Tezuka pro identification chip. 38x27 cm. Osamu TEZUKA (1928-1989) Astroboy, original illustration for a Sugoroku. India ink and gouache on paper. With certificate of authenticity and NFC Tezuka pro identification chip. 38x27 cm. This drawing, one of a set of fifteen (including three depicting Astro), was drawn shortly after the publication of Koide Shinkosha's rare kamishibai (1962). Originally intended for a Suguroku (board game) for the same company, it was therefore produced in a fairly large format, limiting the loss of detail. Following an argument with Koide Shinkosha, Tezuka decided to cancel the project and put the drawings aside. At the time of AstroBoy's broadcast on TV, Mushi Production was publishing a magazine entitled "Astro Boy Club", with illustrations by various studio artists such as the great Shinji Nagashima. All the drawings published at the time and in these manga magazines were in a completely different style, and not by Tezuka himself. This drawing was done much earlier, it didn't appear in Astro Boy Club and only surfaced much later for use in the first publications of Kyoto Fanzine and others. It was given to the president of the Kyoto Astroboy fan club, and rediscovered following his death.
