The Lovers of Verona, Enameled Medallions, ca. 1870-1880 - Lot 205
The Lovers of Verona, Enameled Medallions, ca. 1870-1880 Folded fan, the silk leaf painted in the neo-gothic taste of a guitar player charming a damsel who listens to him from a kiosk. Perhaps it is an evocation of the opera of Gounod "Romeo and Juliet" played for the first time in Paris in 1867? Reverse in beige silk, mute. White mother-of-pearl mounting. The plumes engraved with flowers, and inlaid with enamel plates. One is illustrated on a blue background of the muse of music with a lyre in the company of a love. The other, in the form of mandorla, painted with a love reading. A patent was filed in 1878 by Daub and Berz for the inlay of enamel on the plumes. Bracket and tassel of passementerie. H.t. 29 cm - H.f. 15,2 cm (small wear, stains) Read: M. Volet, 1986, notice 295, p. 236.
