A. Soldé & J. Vaillant-Valmour, A wedding in Italy, 1875 Folded fan, paper sheet lined with skin, and painted with gouache. On the left, like a promise of marriage, a love offers a wreath of flowers to a young lady under foliage. In the centre, a couple descends the steps of a temple where they have united. The young woman dressed in white grabs the bouquet offered by one love while another lays a wreath on her head. A phylactery bearing the motto of the family of the great aristocracy of Rome, the "Colonna", is wrapped around a column. On a cloud, Cupid and his loves watch the scene. One of them presents the spouses with their "marriage certificate". Signed left "A. The reverse side is painted with golden foliage and in the centre, the wife's alliance arms mixing the arms of the Colonna, Visconti-Sforza, Doria and Carraciolo; with the Colonna family motto "Semper Immota", signed on the left side in golden letters by the fan maker "Voisin". A white mother-of-pearl frame pierced, sculpted, engraved and burgautée with a love on an altar honored by young girls. Engraved on the 6th strand "Valmour". H.t. 29,5 cm-H.f. 14,8 cm (beautiful condition, small frame restorations and small burgau lacks)NB: this exceptional wedding fan brings together the names of the renowned painter Alexandre Soldé (1821-1893), renowned for these leaves commissioned by the European aristocracy on the occasion of the wedding; that of Jules Vaillant (1835-1904), an important sculptor table in Oise. Devarenne refers to him as Vaillant-Valmour. The name Valmour also appears on a fan of Félix Alexandre's collection sold in 1873, known for its "artistic fans", the name of the éventailliste Voisin is extremely rare on fans. Established 23 rue de la Paix in Paris in 1865, he obtained a bronze medal in 1876 at the Exposition des Industries d'art.
