"Nina ou la folle par amour", circa 1786 Folded fan, double sheet of paper engraved and embellished in colour with three cartels illustrating the famous lyrical drama of Dalayrac and Marsollier, "Nina ou la folle par amour" performed at the Opéra Comique for the first time in Paris on 15 May 1786. In the garden of the Palais-Royal, Nina on her knees thinks she will see her deceased lover again. On the left, she languishes sitting on a bench. On the right, she talks with her lover. On the reverse, verses from "Nina's Romance/ with Guitar Accompaniment (sic)/ Sung by Mrs. Dugazon". The actress Mrs. Dugazon played the title role in the play and was largely responsible for its success: ivory frame* decorated with lines and zig-zags. H.t. 26.8 cm / H.f. 11.8 cm (one fold and one missing strand on the left, wear and tear and rest)
