Naples and Vesuvius in eruption, around 1770 Folded fan, the double leaf in cabretille painted with five subjects in trompe-l'oeil on a pink striped background. In the centre, a bird of prey stands on ducks, with the legend "Veduta del lago di Agnano". Two views of the bay of Naples adorn the sides, one at night with the lava setting fire to the volcano "Veduta del molo di Napoli, col Monte Vesuvio di Notte" (View of the pier of Naples, with Vesuvius by night); and the other daytime "Veduta della Darsena di Napoli col Monte Vesuvio". Two short texts in Italian complete the composition: Revers: a small trompe-l'oeil landscape. Ivory mount*, the carved plumes of a vase and a column surmounted by a fleur-de-lis.H.t. 28 cm - H.f. 12,7 cm (restorations) N.B.: the fleur-de-lis on the plumes recalls the arms of the Kingdom of Sicily, with Naples as its capital.
