The gallant fisherman, around 1730-1740 - Lot 72
The gallant fisherman, around 1730-1740 Folded fan, the double sheet of gouache wallpaper of a pretty fisherman called by a gallant offering her a fan. The composition is borrowed from the "Recueil des différentes modes" by the engraver Hérisset, published in 1730, and bordered by cartels illustrated with scenes of dance, song, lunch or gallantry. On the reverse: exotic composition. Ivory*, natural, green or red stained frame. The strands are engraved with illustrated maxims on the theme of love: a rose is surmounted by "Who so rubs so hard"; a heart chained with "I lost my freedom". This work is reminiscent of that of Mariaval, a tablet maker working in Paris. The plumes tinted pink and green, with mother-of-pearl applications, and engraved. On one, a sunflower with "J'attends mon soleil". 29.5 cm-H.f. 18 cm (wear and tear and restoration) NB: the Musée des arts décoratifs de Paris has a fan with a similar frame. See J. de Los Llanos, G. Letourmy-Bordier, "Le siècle d'or de l'éventail", Faton, 2013, p. 125 (ill.). A fan with an identical sheet is kept in the Volet collection. See M. Volet, "Facher und ihre geheimnisse. Fans: holders of secrets. Les éventails et leurs secrets", cat. expo. Puppenhausmuseum, 2009, no. 164.
