Nevers. - Lot 138
Nevers. Rare diorama simulating a cave transformed into a theatre with columns and mirrors, with sandblasted and sequined decoration, decorated with flowery vases surrounding a glass rosette. In the centre, made of spun glass from Nevers, Saint Louis carrying the relics of passion, the Nails and the Crown of Thorn, under a portico with a rounded pediment decorated with a figure of God the Father holding the Holy Ampoule, on either side a caryatid. In niches on each side appear on the left Saint Jacques de Compostelle and on the right Saint Jean Baptiste a sheep at his feet, they are surmounted by cherubs. (Small accidents, an arm of the detached Saint John the Baptist). Louis XIV period. Height: 28.5 cm, width: 33 cm, depth: 13.5 cm. On the top an old collection label indicating: St Louis bringing back the nails and the thorn crown. Rare specimen of spun glass from the Louis XIII period.
