Matei Popovici - Lot 30
Matei Popovici "The Hotel des Ambassadeurs de Hollande, second courtyard". Felt pen on tracing paper Sheet size: 29 x 42 cm Frame size: 44 x 55 cm Matei Popovici was born in Bucharest on April 12, 1962, and has lived in France for almost 36 years. He is an architect, painter and watercolorist. With his very first commissions for watercolors of interiors, Matei Popovici renewed with his own sensibility a genre developed in the 19th century and later by Alexandre Serebriakoff. He gave his clients a "living" testimony of prestigious places. This is how he lent his brushes to the most beautiful residences in France: in Paris, the Hôtel Lambert, Hôtel de Castries, Hôtel Pozzo Di Borgo, Emilio Terry's apartment, Colette's apartment in the Palais Royal - in the provinces: Château de Verteuil, Château de Bonnétable, Château de Courances, Pavillon de la Lanterne in Versailles - in museums: Musée de la Vie Romantique, Musée Nissim de Camondo, Musée Jaquemart-André. These watercolors, or "interior portraits", capture the soul of these exceptional places, and attempt to stop time and the "propitious hours".
