La parabole du Mauvais riche et du pauvre Lazare (The Parable of the Bad Rich Man and Poor Lazarus), gouache and gilded woodcut on vellum. A banquet scene is set in an opulent interior paved with pink marble. The rich man and his wife are seated at table, surrounded by servants bringing dishes. In the background, an arched window opens onto a hilly landscape where Lazarus stands, two dogs licking his wounds. France, early 16th century H. 14.9 cm - W. 10.2 cm Mounted on strong cardboard (Wear) This miniature, taken from a printed Book of Hours, adorned the beginning of the Office des défunts, from which the beginning of Psalm 114 is still recognizable. The model of this woodcut was widely circulated in the early 16th century, appearing in the Heures à l'usage de Rome published in Paris by Gillet Hardouin in 1509.
