Carved limestone Saint Anthony, rough back. Standing with hi - Lot 28
Carved limestone Saint Anthony, rough back. Standing with his head tilted towards the book of the Rule, the saint is dressed in an ample bure and camail. A long beard with wavy locks falls over his chest. Burgundy, 15th century H. 54 cm Pedestal (Damage and missing parts) This posture of Saint Anthony, with his head tilted towards the book and holding his staff in his left hand, follows a pattern of iconographic representation of the saint adopted, for example, for the Saint Anthony in the church of Saint-Julien de Turcey (fig.a), but also for the Saint Anthony in the church of Saint-Laurent de Manlay, the latter attributed to Antoine Le Moiturier (fig. b).
