Water-dropper representing a Buddhist lion in sancai enamele - Lot 12
Water-dropper representing a Buddhist lion in sancai enameled bisque China. Kangxi period (1662-1722) The finely sculpted, molded cookie figure represents a male Buddhist lion with a stocky body, expressive head and seated posture. The animal holds a brocade ball, a traditional symbol of power and protection, under one of its front paws. The surface is covered with a sancai glaze, i.e. green, brown and yellow glazes, applied to a cookie with characteristic flowing effects. A small opening at the neck was used to pour water, the water-dropper being an accessory for calligraphy and painting. Provenance :Collection "Regard d'un amateur éclairé". H. 7.5 cm
