L'Audience, rare tapestry, Jean II Barraband, Manufacture de Berlin, early 18th century, fine woven tapestry in polychrome wool and silk depicting a crowned sovereign receiving homage from a Chinese emissary kneeling at her feet, the train of her ermine-lined cloak supported by a Chinese servant. Both the canopy and the rich carpet in the foreground are directly inspired by the Tenture de l'Histoire de l'Empereur de Chine woven between 1684 and 1690 for the Manufacture Royale de Beauvais from cartoons by Guy-Louis Vernansal, Jean-Baptiste Belin de Fontenay and Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer, (large fragment without side borders, fresh coloring, wear restorations), 330 x 145 cm.
