Robert-Houdin's "Soirées fantastiques", France, circa 1854-1861 Rare pink paper fan lithographed on both sides as a souvenir of Robert-Houdin's "Soirées fantastiques". A huge crowd rushes into the Robert-Houdin theater. Caryatids and loves accompany maxims and thoughts. Mention on left "Imp. Decan, r. Richer, 19". On the reverse, rhymes signed Hamilton evoke magic shows, accompanied by small illustrative scenes. A legend appears on the border: "Hamilton-Souvenir des soirées fantastiques de Robert-Houdin, boulevart (sic) des Italiens,8- Hamilton". Mention on the left "Imprimerie Guiraudet et Jouaust, 338, rue Saint-Honoré". Natural wood frame. H.t. 23 cm-H.f. 14.5 cm (very good condition) N.B.: fan from the Hamilton period, brother-in-law of Robert-Houdin, pseudonym of Pierre-Étienne Chocat (1812-1877) who was director and owner of this theater from 1852 to 1861. These fans appeared on stage, emerging from the cornucopia, and were offered to theatergoers. Read "Confidences d'un prestidigitateur par Robert-Houdin, Une vie d'artiste", Blois, ed. Lecesne, 1858.
