Curved armchair in walnut with inlaid geometric decoration o - Lot 33
Curved armchair in walnut with inlaid geometric decoration on the crook-shaped armrests and small fillets of light-colored wood highlighting the line of the seat. Coat of arms at the intersection of the legs. Soles ending in stylized lion paws. Spain, first half of the 16th century H. 102.5 cm - W. 66.5 cm - D. 53 cm covered in red velvet (minor wear and tear) This typology of early Renaissance seating is inherited from the Arab-Muslim Mudejar world, which was very present in Spain and gave the furniture its own techniques, notably the inlaying of bone in the geometric decorations. The lion's paws at the ends of the soles are also present in the Renaissance style of the first half of the 16th century. It is possible to compare this armchair with one in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum (inv n° 45.60.41a, b), which was made in Granada between 1480 and 1500.
