Three rare porcelain tea bowls and display stands decorated with a European riding an elephant. China. Yongzheng period (1723- 1735) Provenance: John Sparks Ltd, London Decorated in famille rose enamels with a European man, probably Dutch, riding an elephant. He is followed by two servants, each carrying porcelain vases embellished with coral. Size: 11.5 x 6 cm For a similarly decorated tea bowl, see G.C. Williamson, The Book of Famille Rose, (Martin Hurst collection), 1936, plate XIX. Another tea bowl with this decoration is in the Henry Francis Dupont Museum Winterthur (USA, inv.1956.0046.080 A).
