Porcelain cup and stand with mythological decoration (The Elements, Water). China. Period Qianlong (1736-1795), ca. 1740 The cup and display stand decorated in the famille rose palette, depicting Galatea, a nereid, in a shell-shaped chariot pulled by dolphins and guided by a putto, accompanied by other putti, nymphs, tritons and a nude figure, perhaps. Acis at the river's edge in the foreground, observing the scene. Based on the Four Elements series by Francesco Albani (1578-1669), a tondi series now in the Galleria Sabauda in Turin, engraved by Antoine Hérisset (1685-1769) or Jean-Louis Delignon (1755-1804). Diameter: 11.5 x 6.5 cm
