CHIPARUS Demeter (Dimutru) Haralamb (1886-1947). Starfish. Chryselephantine figurine, sculpted in blue patina bronze, depicting a young woman standing on tiptoe, hands clasped above her head, dressed in a costume entirely covering her body and head, decorated with gold-embellished stars, whose face and hands are finely carved in ivory. She stands on a base of onyx in various colors. Signed on the right on the base, "DH. Chiparus", circa 1925. Slight wear from the passage of time, small accidents on the edge of the base, but good overall condition. Sculpture: H.: 55.5 cm - W.: 9 cm - D.: 8 cm. With base: H.: 76 cm - W.: 23 cm - D.: 10.5 cm. Bibliography: this work is reproduced in Bryan Catley's book, Art Déco and other figurines, Editora Antique Collector's Club, Suffolk, 1978, page 83.
