CHIPARUS Demeter (Dimutru) Haralamb (1886-1947). Costume ball. Group of chryselephantine figurines, carved in bronze with green, blue and black patina enhanced with gold and silver, representing a couple of costumed dancers. The heads, arms and hands are in finely carved ivory. The set rests on a rectangular pink and yellow quartzite base. Signed on the back right of the base "DH. Chiparus" and on the side of the base "Etling, Paris", circa 1925/1930. Slight age-related wear and small accidents on the edge of the base, small hairs, but overall good condition. H. 48.5 cm - W. 28.5 cm - D. 25 cm. Reference: a similar version is reproduced in the book Chiparus, un sculpteur Art Déco, by Alberto Shoyo, éditions Abbeville, 1999, on page 91. Also in Bryan Catley's Art Déco and other figurines. Provenance : foreign collection of a Brazilian enthusiast.
