[...]" and dated 1922, preserved under glass in a modern natural wood frame. Good condition. Sight: H.: 12 cm - W.: 36 cm. Frame: H.: 54 cm - W.: 30 cm. Provenance : former French private collection. Reference: see another version of this work, shown in 1913 in the Trinity Cathedral in Soumy (Tretyakov Gallery, cat. 1256). Biography: In the 1920s, Nesteroff frequently turned to images of saints, probably commissioned by collectors who appreciated his "pre-revolutionary" style. He sometimes reworked existing works, such as the reduced version of the icon of the Almighty Savior created for the P.D. Korin family, or the icon of the Savior of the Holy Land. Korin family, or that of the Savior of the Trinity Cathedral in Soumy for A.D. Korin. He also owes this influence to his past collaboration with architect Alexis Victorovitch Shchusev (1873-1949), notably on the iconostasis of the Trinity Cathedral in Soumy (1912-1914), his last religious work. Their joint work continued on three projects: the Church of the Intercession in the Marfo-Mariinsky Convent in Moscow (1907-1912, 1914), the funerary cross of Minister Stolypin in the Cave Lavra in Kiev (1912-1913) and the iconostasis of the Trinity Cathedral in Soumy. His religious figures were linked by a complex rhythm and a background of swirling clouds, in harmony with the sumptuous forms of the church interiors for which he created the icons. Through the originality of his work, he sought to emancipate himself from the influence of his master Victor Vassnetsov, who he felt dominated his religious frescoes.
