PHOTOGRAPH FRAME. By FABERGÉ, ARMFELT, St. Petersburg, 1908-1917. Rectangular in shape, in burr walnut, edged with a finely chased silver frieze of striations held in place by crossed ribbons, containing in the center under glass an antique black-and-white photographic portrait of the Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna of Russia and her daughter Princess Irina Youssoupoff, circa 1933, at the time of the death of Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich (1866-1933), with easel stand on the back. Weathered, as is. Title hallmark: 88, Saint Petersburg, 1908-1917. Master goldsmith's hallmark: Carl-Gustav Hjalmar Armfelt (1873-1959). Goldsmith's hallmark: Fabergé. H. 16 cm - L. 16.5 cm. Provenance : former collection of Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna of Russia (1875-1960), then passed on to her daughter, Princess Irina Alexandrovna Youssoupoff, née Princess of Russia (1897-1975), and has since been preserved by direct descent. This charming frame can be seen in situ in the grand salon of the Youssoupoff residence in Paris, located at 38 rue Pierre-Guérin in the 16th arrondissement, see illustration opposite.
