RZEWUSKI ALEX-CESLAS (1893-1983). Portrait of Madame Mabelle Gilman Corey (1874-1960). Drypoint heightened with color and white chalk on old Japan paper, signed in graphite by the artist and bearing the N°VI. This plate is from album no. 3 of an edition numbered 10 copies, published in Paris in 1925 on the occasion of the exhibition devoted to the artist by the Galerie Charpentier in Paris. Galerie Charpentier in Paris. Good condition. H. 28 cm - W. 36 cm History: Mabelle Giman was an American actress. In 1905, she was one of Broadway's biggest musical comedy stars. Two years later, she married William Ellis Corey (1866-1934). In 1923, the couple divorced and Mabelle became successively Madame Robert Scott, then Madame Hernando Rocha. Nicknamed by the American press the "Queen of Diamonds", the "Most Beautiful Blonde on Broadway" and the "$25,000-a-day Bride", this American, whose husbands were all millionaires, divided her time between the Côte d'Azur and the United States. At the end of her life, she stripped herself of her fortune and entered a convent, where she lived out her days in in New York.
