Border, Dresden embroidery, Germany, mid-18th century. A very finely embroidered muslin border (dress facing?), using thrown stitch and spread threads, with a design of flowers, leaves and cartouches adorned with a variety of stitches. Hemmed with a small bobbin lace flounce on a light background. Lined with pink silk. Dim. 2 m x 12 cm (rare small stains). Cf. "The History of Lace" Mme Margaret Simeon, p.75 pl.78
