Engageante, bonnet base and beards, Alençon, needlework, circa 1760-80. An ivory/beige bonnet base and a pair of cream-colored butted beards, very close pattern, flower sprays and cartouches adorned with fashions including the Holy Spirit star, single Alençon network, Dim. bonnet base: 22 cm x 22 cm at widest (small holes and restorations) beard: 1.16 m x 8 cm at widest (good overall condition, fine repeats) A pair of beards and an engageante, both in fine dark ivory linen, similarly decorated with supple branches of exotic flowers and garlands of medallions adorned with fashions, the engageante's decoration drawn symmetrically from its center, simple Alençon network, Dim. engageante: 1.15 m x 7.5 cm at widest (good overall condition, few small holes), pair of barbes: 60 cm x 7 cm each (one has a 1 cm tear, both have small holes in the lattice).
