Borders, Reticella and pulled threads, needlework, Italy, late 16th century. A cream linen document with tone-on-tone embroidered pulled-thread decoration, the lower part with two alternating mirrored motifs, the double-headed eagle with beaks holding a flowering branch, and two lions facing each other on either side of a diamond motif, the upper part with a pomegranate frieze. Dim. 80 x 16 cm (small accidents, cut at bottom) A border in Reticella needle lace on spindle trimmings, creamy-white linen. Dim. 115 x 6 cm (washed)
