Two carved wood lace folders, Le Puy en Velay, early 20th century.
In fruitwood, one carved with two rosettes on the front, stylized foliage and a small rosette on the reverse, Dim. 14 x 8 cm, the other carved on one side with a harvester, Dim. 14 x 7.5 cm (both in good condition).
The folding device enabled the lace-maker to measure and store the lace in the drawer at the back of the tile. It was often made by a fiancé, who engraved it with symbols and presented it to his beloved.
