Carved, patinated and gilded wood inkwell with four embedded - Lot 72
Carved, patinated and gilded wood inkwell with four embedded coaster fixtures. The base has four concave sides. Medallions with male and female profiles adorn the corners (one is laurelled, the other helmeted). Four sheathed figures are fixed to the corners of the shaft, decorated at the top with lion and booby heads, shells and garlands. The four under-glass figures are set in a metal frame. They represent a woman playing the oboe, a man on horseback, a man playing the lute and a hunter on foot with a long pike. Northern Italy, late 16th century H.: 13 cm (minor accidents and restoration) remainder of a collector's label
