An Athenian brazier in green patinated bronze, known as the - Lot 605
An Athenian brazier in green patinated bronze, known as the antique Herculaneum sphinx tripod. The basin, decorated with applied heads and laurel leaf frieze, rests on a belt adorned with stylized acanthus leaves. The lion shank uprights with bearded heads and winged sphinxes at the top are joined by a central chased shaft held in place by openwork scrolls. Neapolitan work from the 19th century, similar to the work of the brothers Luigi and Francesco Manfredini. Francesco Manfredini. H.: 95 cm - D.: 55 cm Cast in bronze for François Piranèse (1758- 1810) in 1806 after the antique model in the Archaeological Museum in Naples.
