RODIN Auguste (1840-1917), after LATEST XXth CENTURY FRENCH ECOLE. Head of Saint John the Baptist. Bronze with green patina. Engraved on the back: "Reproduction Edition 1996". Good condition. H. 35 cm - W. 25 cm - D. 27 cm. History: Saint Jean-Baptiste is one of Auguste Rodin's first bronze statues. It confirms his genius after L'Âge d'airain. It is exhibited at the Musée d'Orsay and the Musée Rodin in Paris. To prove his skill and silence the critics of the bronze L'Âge d'airain, in 1878 Auguste Rodin created a larger-than-life St. John the Baptist. Baptiste larger than life. The plaster cast was exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris in 1880 (no. 6691), and the bronze version the following year (no. 4263). The same year, Rodin made a study of the bronze bust of Saint John the Baptist.
