17th CENTURY FRENCH SCHOOL. Portrait of the Duchesse de La Vallière, Louise-Françoise de La Baume Le Blanc, (1644-1710), first official mistress of King Louis XIV. Oil on panel, preserved in an antique carved and gilded wood frame. Bears a label on the back with the following handwritten inscription: "Louise Françoise de La Baume Le Blanc, duchesse de La Vallière had a son by Louis XIV, named duc de Vermandois. In 1675, she became a Carmelite nun, and in 1710, she died under the name of Louise de la miséricorde. On learning of her son's death, she replied: ''I must mourn the birth of this son even more than his death. Good condition, frame worn and missing. Sight: H.: 35 cm - W.: 26 cm.
