Beautiful pair of chased and gilded bronze torches, the balu - Lot 380
Beautiful pair of chased and gilded bronze torches, the baluster shaft with twisted ribs adorned with garlands of leaves, the doucine base adorned with four wide consoles joined by a garland of grained laurel leaves. H.: 26.5 cm Transitional period circa 1770 This model appears to be largely inspired by the studies produced by Jean-Charles Delafosse (1734-1791), an illustrious Parisian architect, sculptor and ornamentalist, through his engraved collections, notably "La nouvelle iconologie" in 1788. His numerous drawings, with references drawn from Antiquity, were models for a whole generation of sculptors, decorators and bronzeworkers.
