White marble and gilt bronze clock adorned with two caryatid - Lot 356
White marble and gilt bronze clock adorned with two caryatids leaning against a central sheath decorated with a trophy of attributes of science and geography and flanked by two Athenian fire pots. The base is decorated with plant and star motifs, and the feet are in gilded bronze. The white enameled dial features Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes and seconds. Louis XVI period H. 56 cm - W. 38 cm - D. 10 cm (The vestal pampers are missing, ATHENIENNE ABIMEE) Two similar models are shown in Pierre Kjellberg's Encyclopédie de la pendule française, Edition de l'amateur, reproduced on page 265.
