A pair of ormolu and chased bronze andirons decorated with children riding sphinxes on entablatures, with friezes of foliage, gadroons and shells, flanked by chimeras leaning against a recessed plinth base and adorned with a central radiating female mask in a lambrequin surround with pampers leaves. Louis XIV period H.: 21.8 cm - W.: 30.2 cm - D.: 9 cm (general wear to gilding) A similar pair in the former Hubert de Givenchy collection was sold at Christie's in Monaco on December 4, 1993 as lot 4 (from the former David Weill Collection) and had been exhibited in Paris at the Musée de l'Orangerie, Le Cabinet de l'Amateur in 1956 (n°264) and at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Louis XIV Faste et Décors in 1960 (n°232 and 233).
