Pair of corner cabinets in rosewood and violet marquetry ven - Lot 132
Pair of corner cabinets in rosewood and violet marquetry veneer, decorated with flowering branches and knotted ribbons. The slightly curved front opens with two leaves, and the uprights and legs are curved. Rich rocaille and foliate ornamentation in chased and gilded bronze, such as lock escutcheons, falls, frames and sabots. Breche d'Alep marble top with molded edges. Louis XV period. Stamped by Hubert Hansen, received master on June 12, 1747, and JME. H. 97.5 cm - L. 60 cm (old label under the marble with n°6824) Provenance : Bonhams; Los Angeles; December 3, 2012; Fine European Furniture & Decorative Arts; Lot 211 From the former Espirito Santo collection, dispersed at the Galerie Charpentier in Paris under the gavel of Maître Maurice Rheims on June 14, 1955 (lot 34), we find another pair of encoignures stamped by Hubert Hansen with the same shape and marquetry decoration (reproduced opposite). Finally, the shape and overall harmony of the decoration on our corner pieces are reminiscent of the pair in the Getty Museum collections in Los Angeles, attributed to Jean-Pierre Latz (for the carcass and bronzes) and Jean-François Oeben (for the marquetry work).
