Large pair of gilded bronze sculptures representing two seas - Lot 127
Large pair of gilded bronze sculptures representing two seasonal children. The first personifying winter warming himself by a flame, and the second summer with a sheaf of wheat on a chariot. Antique work in the 18th century style. H. 45 cm - L. 46 cm (minor oxidation) Our pair of sculptures is most probably inspired by the Enfants Saisons series produced at the Sèvres factory in 1769-1770 for the Surtout Bachelier, which consists of four cookies (autumn, summer, spring and winter) and was intended to adorn the banquet table at the wedding of the future King Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette. The set was part of the splendor of the many festivities organized for the occasion.
