Standing writing desk in rosewood and satinwood floral marqu - Lot 124
Standing writing desk in rosewood and satinwood floral marquetry veneer. It opens at the top with a sloping flap trimmed in fawn leather, revealing a shelf, a pigeonhole and three drawers. A right-hand pull reveals a pencil box. The belt opens to reveal a drawer. The uprights and sinuous legs are supported by a spacer plate. Louis XV period. Stamped by Nicolas Petit. H. 125.5 cm - W. 105 cm - D. 57 cm (Restorations) Nicolas Petit, a cabinetmaker who received his master's diploma in 1761 and set up shop on rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine, under the sign "Nom de Jésus", is renowned for the diversity of his production over a period of almost thirty years. He knew how to adapt to furniture trends. He began with furniture that was still somewhat rocailles, with curved forms, such as flat desks and encoignures, with attractive marquetry of flowering branches or attributes.
