SIGNED ENVOI: À Monsieur Arthur Meyer, souvenir de qui se souvient, Philippe duc d'Orléans. ADDED ORIGINAL ILLUSTRATION: 1 original signed drawing by Emmanuel Frémiet depicting the capture of a young elephant, black ink and wash on paper (229 x 140 mm), mounted on a book-sized folio. ATTACHMENTS: (1): l.a.s. from François Coppée to Arthur Meyer: "j'ai essayé, ces jours-ci, de trouver quelques vers sur le jeune Prince, dont l'acte m'a paru chevaleresque...", [s.l.n.d.], 1. p. in-8, brown ink; (2) l.a.s. from the Duc d'Orléans entitled "Aux conscrits de ma classe" : "j'avais demandé à faire mes trois ans comme soldat...", [s.l.n.d.], 3 pp. in-12, headed paper, brown ink, envelope preserved. SIGNED BINDING BY MARIUS MICHEL. Midnight-blue morocco, gilt decoration, framed fillets, mosaic fleur-de-lys in the corners, ornate ribbed spine, similarly gilt and mosaic, cover boards preserved, gilt edges. PROVENANCE: Arthur Meyer, director of Le Gaulois (1844-1924; bookplate with the motto "Je chante clair"; gilded figure at the tail of the spine; Paris, June 1924, no. 443).
