RARE COLLECTION OF FOUR SUITES FROM THE LATE 16th CENTURY, FOURTY-NINE ENGRAVINGS ON COPPER, forty of which depict HUNTING SCENES
Four suites:
1. Engravings 1-7: HOESWINCKEL, Eduardus ab, Animalium Quadrupedum Venatus in usum pictorum aurifaborum que editae. [Before 1583]. One frontispiece and 7 plates (of 10) engraved on copper. BIBLIOGRAPHY: Hollstein VII, p. 103, 1-10 -- Thiébaud, 501 (notes 8 plates). 2. Engravings 8-13: DELAUNE, Étienne, dit Stephanus, [Scènes de chasse]. Before 1554 (according to the Département des Arts graphiques du Louvre). 5 plates (of 6 without title) engraved on copper. First state according to Robert-Dumesnil (without engraver's address). BIBLIOGRAPHY: Robert-Dumesnil, 1865, IX, p. 86, n° 275 à 280 -- Pollet, 1995, p. 211-217, n°17 à 22 -- Etienne Delaune et les arts décoratifs, cat. exp., Ecouen, Musée national de la Renaissance, 2019 -2020. 3. Engravings 14-40: [BOL, Jan, et Philippe GALLE], [Venationis, piscationis, et aucupii typi] [Types de chasse, de pêche et de chasse]. [1582]. 28 copper engravings (of 47, excluding the title). Jan Bol was probably inspired by Stradanus' Venationes, published in 1578. Schwerdt II, 75-76. 4 Engravings 41-49: [DELAUNE, Étienne, dit Stephanus], [Combats et triomphes]. Circa 1550-1573. 9 copper engravings (of 12) after Baptiste Pellerin (engravings 41-49 in the present collection). First state before engraver's numbers and address.
