CONDITION: A second-issue copy, in which all errors have been corrected. Conforms in this respect to the collation of the Gallice-Schwerdt copy, that of Jeanson (Monaco, 1987, no. 211) and that of the BnF (S-4430). COLLATION: ã4 ẽ4 ĩ2 a-z4 A-S4 T2 (ĩ2 blank): (10)-155-(11) ff., a1r-Q3r folioed 1-155 (Q2r misfolioed 145 for 154) ANNOTATIONS: a few marginal annotations in an early hand, in brown ink, very faded Modern binding in imitation of the 16th century. Greenish-brown calf, double-framed cold-stamped fillets, gilded fleurons in the corners, mute spine with ornamented nerves, edges mottled. PROVENANCE: wet stamp on title leaf, partly faded. Washed copy, marginal soiling to title leaf and last two leaves. Charles Estienne (1504-1564), a physician by trade, belonged to the famous family of Renaissance humanists and printers. He was the third son of Henri Estienne (c. 1470-1520) and the brother of François (1502-1550) and Robert Estienne (1503-1559), printer to the king for Hebrew and Latin (in 1539) and for Greek (1540). Charles Estienne succeeded his brother Robert as King's printer in 1551.
