Ordinance of King Louis XIII Paris, A. Étienne, Mettayer & Prevost, 1629 CHANCELLOR LE TELLIER'S COPY FIRST EDITION. In-8 (165 x 99mm). Handwritten notes on the flyleaf and one leaf pasted to the spine of the title. CONTEMPORARY BINDING. Granite calf, gilt decoration, arms in the center of the boards, ornate spine. PROVENANCE: Michel III Le Tellier, Chancellor and Keeper of the Seals (1603-1685; arms on boards (OHR 1753, fer 1); note on flyleaf: "J'avais fait relier ce livre pour Monseigneur Le Tellier... Charpentier") -- L. Parrelle (handwritten bookplate) -- La Germonière (bookplate). Spine restored. The "Michau" code is an ordinance drafted by the Garde des Sceaux, Michel de Marillac, in 1629, at the request of Louis XIII.
