CLÉMENTINE, princesse d'Orléans (1817-1907) The Arrival of King Henry VIII of England Welcomed by Lord Marmion. Drawing in brown ink, graphite and gouache highlights on paper, signed at the bottom center by the artist "Clémentine" and dated "1836". Good condition. H.: 36 cm - W.: 38 cm. 1 500/2 000 History: This scene was inspired by Walter Scott's poem "Marmion", published in 1808, which recounts the Battle of Flodden Field in 1513. It tells the story of Lord Marmion who, in order to enlarge his estate, wishes to marry Clara de Clare, daughter of the Earl of Gloucester, already promised to Sir Ralph de Wiltron.
