ÉCOLE FRANÇAISE DU XVIIe SIÈCLE Portrait of King Louis IX "Saint Louis" (1214-1270). Oil on panel, painted on both sides, with the inscription "ST. LUDOVICUS REX GALLIAE". Age wear, small accident to the edge. H.: 40.5 cm - L.: 31 cm. On this work, the French sovereign is depicted with the royal attributes: the coat of the kings of France in blue velvet edged with ermine and embroidered with gold fleurs-de-lis, the collar of the Order of Saint Michael, the royal crown, the scepter with the fleur-de-lis and the hand of justice. In his right hand, he holds the three nails of the Crucifixion, presented in a red handkerchief symbolizing the Passion.
