Michiko Yamada (XX) - Lot 301
Michiko Yamada (XX) Window, original board from a short story. Mochiko Ito, better known by her pseudonym Michiko Yamada, has been active in the Shojo genre for over twenty years. Until 1965, most Shojo were drawn by men, and Michio was one of the first to break with this norm. Her best-known manga was Sacchin 10, published by Shogakukan, in which the main character solves the problems of her classmates. She began this series in the '70s, and it's still going strong. This plate, taken from a 12-page short story, was published in the "Sand Castle" collection by Homerun Comics (1969). Michiko was forced to sell some of her drawings after her home was hit by the tsunami and the Fukushima incident (witness the traces of dampness on this plate, later restored). India ink and white gouache on paper, 36x26 cm (small thumbtack hole in lower right corner).
