Fichu and matching flounce in Brussels appliqué, mid-19th century. The border is decorated with large blossoming flowers and foliage in needlepoint gauze. Inlaid in a fine drochel spindle network, the diamond-shaped fichu is worn folded in half, with the motifs worked so that they are all right side up when the fichu is worn this way. Dim. fichu length 1.50 m, width 60 cm, flounce 4.10 m x 22 cm (very good condition with some foxing to the fichu, foxing and a few small accidents to the flounce). Provenance: Pyckede ten Aerden and le Fevere de ten Hove families, and by descent.
